BANDAGE
Second skin, also known as Tegaderm or Saniderm, is a breathable, waterproof bandage used for tattoo aftercare. These products are readily available on Amazon, or at some local Pharmacies. It protects the tattoo from infection, friction, and water exposure while allowing it to heal. If you experience excessive redness or itching, it could be an adhesive reaction. Remove the bandage immediately and switch to traditional aftercare.
Leave it on
It is recommend leaving the second skin on for 1-5 days. If fluid builds up significantly, you may need to replace the bandage or remove the bandage completely and switch to traditional aftercare.
Check for Leaks
Monitor the edges of the bandage daily for any lifting or punctures. If the seal of the bandage is broken, it no longer is effective at protecting the tattoo from bacteria and needs to be removed and replaced, or switched to traditional aftercare.
Showering
Showering is generally fine with second skin, but avoid prolonged water exposure or scrubbing the bandage.
Avoid strenuous activity and excessive sweating while wearing second skin to prevent irritation.
