BANDAGE

Your tattoo should remain bandaged a minimum of 4 to 6 hours after being tattooed (or overnight if suggested.)

WASH

The first time you wash your tattoo is the most important part of the healing process. Immediately after removing the bandage, wash the tattoo with warm water and unscented antibacterial soap such as Softsoap Antibacterial Liquid Hand Soap until all surface blood is removed. Carefully wash and rinse the tattoo several times if necessary to ensure no sliminess or shine remain on the skin. Wash and lather your tattoo with some pressure, but avoid scrubbing or using anything abrasive such as a washcloth or lufa. Air dry the tattoo or pat dry with clean paper towels.

OINTMENT

Once the tattoo is fully dry apply a very small amount of Aquaphor Healing Ointment to the tattoo. If too much ointment is used, allow your skin to absorb the ointment for 10 minutes and then pat the excess ointment off with a clean paper towel. Repeat this process of washing and applying ointment 2-3 times a day for the first 3 days.

Lotion

After the first 3-5 days you will notice the tattoo starting to peel similar to a sunburn. Once the tattoo begins to peel you can reduce to washing once daily and discontinue aquaphor ointment. When the tattoo is dry or itchy apply an unscented lotion such as Lubriderm Daily Moisture as needed. Lotion is used to keep the tattoo hydrated and avoid scabbing, but also avoid using in excess to allow the tattoo to heal.
